What to do if your water bill is unexpectedly high?

If your water bill is higher than usual, contact the water supply organization, submit an appeal, and wait for the meter replacement. During the review process, you don’t need to make any payments. If the meter is faulty, a new bill will be issued; if it's working correctly, you’ll need to pay the overcharge. Meters older than 10 years should be replaced.

What to do if your water bill is higher than usual?

Contact the water supply company listed on your bill.

Submit a dispute regarding the billed amount. The staff will process your request.

Expect a visit from the company’s representatives. Within 2-3 business days, they will replace your meter with a new one, and take the old one for examination.

The cost for replacing the meter is approximately 300 lira.

Important: During the investigation, your bill will be frozen — you won’t need to make any payments, and the amount will remain unchanged.

The meter examination will take about two months. It will be determined whether the meter is faulty.

If the issue lies with the meter, the water supply company will issue a new bill with the correct amount.

If the meter is found to be functioning properly, you will be required to pay the inflated bill along with any late payment fees.

Important: If your meter is over 10 years old, no examination will be conducted. In Turkey, meters are required to be replaced every 10 years, and it is the responsibility of the water supply company to do so.

  • Tip: Regularly check your meters and confirm their age, even if you are renting an apartment. This can help you avoid overpaying in the future.
