WARNING: Be cautious when depositing funds in banks in Turkey!
Lately, there have been reports of fraud in Turkish banks—especially in tourist areas such as Kundu and Antalya—where cash deposits are subsequently recorded under a third party’s name. Exercise extra vigilance when visiting a bank with acquaintances or through intermediaries, and remain attentive at every step. This may be due to a technical error or deliberate malpractice by unscrupulous staff.
To avoid such situations:
- Verify your first and last name on all documents right at the counter.
- Insist that every detail exactly matches your identification.
- Do not leave the branch until you have received confirmation made out in your name.
- Photograph your documents and transaction slips—this can be invaluable if a dispute arises.
