Address Registration Requirement for Residence Permit Holders
If you have a valid residence permit (ikamet izni) in Turkey, you are required to register your residential address within 20 calendar days of obtaining the permit or changing your place of residence.
Consequences of Failing to Register
1. Violation of the Law
– The Migration Management System (GÖÇ) may classify you as “missing.”
– Your residence permit may be cancelled.
– You may be subject to an administrative fine.
– You may be considered as illegally residing in the country.
2. Risk of Residence Permit Renewal Rejection
– When applying for a renewal, authorities will check if you had a valid registered address.
– If no address was recorded, your application may be rejected or your current permit may be revoked.
3. Limited Access to Essential Services
Without a registered address, you will be unable to:
– Open a bank account
– Obtain health insurance
– Register with a state doctor
– Purchase a SIM card
– Enroll a child in school
Address Verification Visits
Within 1–2 months of address registration, law enforcement or civil registry officers may conduct a home visit to verify that you are actually residing at the declared address.
Important:
Do not register a “false” or temporary address for formality.
Using fake or third-party addresses may result in serious consequences, including cancellation of your residence permit and legal action.
