If you have renewed your passport in Türkiye, there are several important points to keep in mind:
Updating residence permit information
- Your new passport details must be entered into the Göç İdaresi (Migration Office) system.
- To do this, you must submit a “Bilgi Güncelleme” (Information Update) application at the İl Göç İdaresi in your place of residence.
- Otherwise, your old passport will remain in the system, which may cause errors during tax payments or when applying for a residence permit extension.
Tax payment
- In some cases, tax can be paid using your YU (99…) number linked to your residence permit.
- However, if the payment is linked to your passport number (for example, during renewal), without updating the information the payment may be processed but not reflected in your file.
Additional steps after passport replacement
- Migration officers will update your new passport details in the system and direct you to the Gümrük kapısı (customs office at the airport).
- There, your information will be verified, and you will be issued a document confirming that you have not left the country.
- This document must be submitted back to both the Migration Office and the Tax Office.
Important
If you did not notify the authorities immediately after receiving your new passport, there is no fine for this. Do not worry — the main thing is to update your data before your next procedures.
